Split one flattened PNG into reusable image parts

A PNG can support transparency, but a normal exported PNG still stores the visible design as one flattened image. PNG to Layers analyzes that finished image and proposes separate RGBA layers for the background, main subject, supporting objects, text-like graphics, shadows, and effects.

The result is useful when you have the final PNG but not the original Photoshop, Figma, or Canva project.

What the PNG layer separator produces

  • Transparent PNG files that keep the original canvas dimensions.
  • A proposed background or clean image plate.
  • Separate subject, object, graphic, shadow, or lighting candidates.
  • A manifest containing file names, canvas size, and layer order.
  • A ZIP that can be opened without proprietary software.

The AI creates a new editable representation. It does not recover the exact original source layers, font files, vector paths, smart objects, or masks.

PNGs that separate well

Strong candidates usually have a clear foreground subject, a readable background, visible badges or text blocks, and limited overlap. Posters, product visuals, character art, thumbnails, and graphic illustrations are often easier to inspect than crowded photographs.

Manual cleanup may still be needed around hair, smoke, glass, reflections, tiny objects, or areas where one object hides another.

PNG layers in Photoshop, Figma, and Canva

Photoshop and Photopea can place every exported PNG on a separate layer. Figma and Canva can use the files as independent transparent assets for new layouts, although rasterized text remains an image rather than editable typography.

If you only need one subject cutout, a background remover may be faster. Use an image layer separator when you need several parts of the composition, not just foreground and background.

Frequently asked questions

Can a flattened PNG really be split into layers?

AI can propose new semantic layers from the visible pixels. It cannot reveal the exact hidden construction of the original design.

Does existing PNG transparency remain useful?

Yes, but the resulting layer structure still depends on the visible composition and how clearly its elements can be separated.

Can I upload JPG or WebP too?

Yes. The same tool accepts JPG, PNG, and WebP files up to the displayed upload limit.
