Keep the Midjourney image you like and change only part of it

Midjourney produces a finished raster image rather than the editable source layers behind a composition. Midjourney to Layers creates a new layer stack from that result so you can work with the background, primary subject, supporting objects, text-like elements, shadows, and atmosphere separately.

This is useful when regenerating the whole image would lose the composition, character, lighting, or art direction you already approved.

A practical Midjourney post-production workflow

  1. Export the cleanest available Midjourney image without interface overlays.
  2. Upload the JPG, PNG, or WebP and wait for the layer preview.
  3. Inspect the main subject and background first; they determine whether the separation is useful.
  4. Review smaller props, type-like graphics, shadows, and effects.

Midjourney images that work best
